JOB DESCRIPTION:

A newly funded postdoctoral position for recent Ph.D. is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Levy at the NKI.

The position focuses on the anti-amyloidogenic and neuroprotective properties of a novel, naturally occurring mutation in the amyloid beta peptide found in an Italian family. This post-doctoral fellow will investigate whether the interaction between the Italian amyloid beta, which contains an amino acid substitution at residue 2 of amyloid beta, and wild-type amyloid beta hinders amyloid beta oligomerization, amyloidogenesis and neurotoxicity using unique transgenic mouse models. Overall, these studies will address multiple mechanisms by which Italian amyloid beta appears to be protective. Additionally, this applicant will use exosomes as vehicles to deliver protective Italian amyloid beta within the brain, a novel therapeutic approach for Alzheimer's disease.

This study routinely employs multidisciplinary approaches including behavioral tests of mouse models, and electron microscopy, immunolabeling, standard biochemistry, as well as genomic, proteomic and lipidomic approaches of mouse brain tissue, human postmortem brain tissue, and in vitro cultured cells.

JOB DUTIES:

  • The individual will work closely with the P.I. performing experiments, analyzing data, and writing manuscripts
  • cell culture, primary neuronal cultures
  • tissue and cell immunolabeling for confocal microscopy
  • Western blot, subcellular fractionation

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. or the equivalent
  • A strong research and record of written productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in international journals and potentially fellowship applications.
  • The candidate must have the ability to work efficiently, great problem-solving ability, excellent organizational skills, be fluent in English, should have good writing skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.
