Applications are currently being invited for a 2-year Research Assistant position available under the direction of Dr. Russell Tobe, at the Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI). A 1-year Research Assistant may be considered for highly qualified applicants. The NKI is focused on understanding the underlying biology of and advancing treatments for psychiatric illnesses including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Projects include innovative MRI-based imaging approaches and development of refined diagnostic characterizations. Clinical trials explore new investigational compounds.

The NKI fosters a collaborative environment where research assistants have the opportunity to gain excellent clinical and research experience, with the potential for publication. Salary is competitive and benefits include health, vision, and dental. Responsibilities will include any combination of behavioral, neuropsychological and psychiatric assessment, recruitment, data management, data-analysis, neurophysiology, and imaging acquisition.

Applicants should have a B.S. or B.A. in psychology, neuroscience, biology, social work, or related scientific fields. The ideal candidates will have prior human subject research experience, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently. Technical skills are a plus, but not required.

  • Prior clinical and/or research experience with ASD populations

Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR).  Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
