Applications are being accepted for an Assistant Research Scientist (clinical-researcher postdoctoral fellowship) for up to three years with a focus on anxiety among Black adolescents in urban public high schools. The fellow will coordinate an IES-funded research project which adapts a school-based, group cognitive-behavioral intervention for social anxiety. The fellow will also evaluate the intervention's feasibility, efficacy, and costs.


The Assistant Research Scientist (postdoctoral fellow) will be involved in all aspects of the study including (but not limited to): recruitment, outreach, training, supervision of study staff, data management and analysis, manuscript preparation, and publications. Opportunities for publication and grant writing. The fellow will also supervise graduate assistants and the research assistant on the project.


Applicants must have a doctorate in a relevant area of study. Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience in conducting clinical research and data analysis, experience in school/community settings, and training in cognitive-behavioral therapy are preferred. The applicant should have the organizational skills necessary to manage the daily operations of a large-scale randomized controlled trial implemented in numerous schools/clinics.

Background Investigation/Justice Center Review Requirements:

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment. 2) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
