An NIA-funded postdoctoral position for recent Ph.D. is available immediately in the laboratory of Dr. Mathews at the NKI.

The project for this position investigates the mechanisms of ApoE4-driven endosomal changes in neurons in human ApoE4 carriers and ApoE4 mice, focusing on lipid changes as drivers of early endosome pathology. Furthermore, this study aims to test the hypothesis that enhancing retromer-mediated trafficking from the early endosome to the trans-Golgi attenuates pathogenic endosomal abnormalities and their negative consequences for neuronal survival. These studies routinely employ multi-disciplinary approaches including behavioral tests of mouse models, mouse immunohistochemistry, biochemical analyses, including Western blot and ELISA, and in vitro models of Alzheimer's disease.

  • This individual will work closely with the P.I. performing experiments, analyzing data, and writing manuscripts;
  • Rodent husbandry, including familiarity with standard behavioral assessments;
  • Cell culture, primary neuronal cultures;
  • Tissue and cell immunolabeling for confocal microscopy;
  • PCR, Western blot, subcellular fractionation.

  • Applicants must have a recent Ph.D. or the equivalent.
  • A strong research and record of written productivity as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in international journals and potentially fellowship applications.
  • The candidate must have the ability to work efficiently, great problem-solving ability, excellent organizational skills, be fluent in English, should have good writing skills, and excellent interpersonal skills.

To apply please include C.V., a brief statement of current research and long-term goal, and the names and contact information of three references.
